Huddersfield is often underrated as a sports area, somewhat lost in the mix by being so close to both Leeds and Manchester. However, there is no getting away from the fact this West Yorkshire town has one of the most passionate fan bases in the United Kingdom.
Huddersfield is rich in sporting history, particularly football and rugby. In fact, it is known as the birthplace of rugby league, which was formed in 1895.
Huddersfield Town AFC was founded in 1908, and became the first English club to win three successive league titles. The Terriers also won the FA Cup and Charity Shield in 1922.
The Huddersfield Giants have been around even longer, dating back to 1895. They have won seven championships, six challenge cups and most recently clinched the Super League Leader’s Shield in 2013.
